🚨 Robinhood’s earnings hit a record high, but crypto revenue took a major hit! Where has crypto trading activity gone?
Robinhood’s latest earnings report is out! Third-quarter net revenue reached $1.42 billion, up 12% year over year and a record for a single quarter. Net income, however, fell 14% year over year. The biggest thing to watch: cryptocurrency trading revenue was just $120 million, down a steep 55% year over year, while trading volume fell 38%. On the other hand, revenue from event contracts more than sextupled year over year, and options and stock trading revenue also rose.
🧠 In plain English: Not every business is cooling off—users’ money and attention are shifting elsewhere. As crypto trading cools, event contracts, stocks, and options are heating up, suggesting the platform’s revenue no longer relies solely on crypto speculation. Meanwhile, in the first full quarter of Robinhood’s self-built chain, DEX trading volume topped $80 billion and on-chain fees exceeded $50 million. Traditional trading platforms are also moving onto the blockchain faster.
🔥 My take: The most interesting thing about this earnings report is that “crypto trading revenue is falling” and “on-chain business is expanding” are happening at the same time. In the short term, weaker retail trading activity could weigh on market sentiment. In the long term, the platform is still competing to become a gateway to on-chain trading and asset tokenization.
So don’t turn bearish just because revenue is down, and don’t turn bullish just because the on-chain numbers look good. What really matters is when capital returns to crypto trading—and whether on-chain growth can translate into sustained, genuine demand. 👀$BULLA $AKE $AGT
