đŸ›ïž The Fed’s October rate meeting runs from tonight through tomorrow morning (10/27–28). For an asset class like Meme coins—the “highest-beta” assets—the macro ceiling matters more than any single candlestick.

According to recent CME FedWatch data, the market puts the odds of the Fed “holding steady (3.75%–4.00%)” at around 90.6%, with almost nobody betting on a rate cut. But the odds of another 25 bp hike in December are still around 74%. Core PCE inflation data comes out on 10/29 and could immediately reshape expectations.

My take: If the Fed “holds steady” in October as expected, that would be only a “temporary breather” for Meme coins—not a trend reversal. The broader backdrop is “higher for longer” rates plus a relatively strong dollar. In this environment, Meme coins, with their highest volatility, are the first to have liquidity pulled from them, so any rebound is more likely to be technical than driven by new capital. Two things will really determine whether high-beta assets can rally: first, whether Warsh’s wording opens the door to the “rate-hiking cycle being over”; second, whether the odds of a December hike fall. Until then, treating a “single-asset rebound” as a “sector reversal” is the easiest mistake to make at this stage.

So tonight, what’s worth watching isn’t how much some microcap meme coin has pumped, but the U.S. Dollar Index, 10-year Treasury yields, and whether BTC can hold above the 80,000 level.

What share of your portfolio is in Meme coins right now? Would you actively lower your beta during a rate-hiking cycle? đŸ€”
