Remember these points about Bitcoin’s total supply and halvings:
1) Bitcoin’s total supply is capped at about 21 million coins, based on the rule that block rewards are halved periodically.
2) At the current block production rate, all bitcoins are expected to be mined around 2140.
3) To see how far away the next halving is, check the current block height. The next halving will occur at block 1,050,000.
The new-coin issuance for $BTC is written into the protocol, and no institution can issue extra coins on a temporary basis.
