At Tuesday’s close, the dollar index was up 0.40%, gold was up 0.89%, and crude oil was down 1.79%. Three lines, three directions. That tells us money wasn’t shifting its risk appetite that day; it was shifting between assets.

Risk appetite has only one switch. When it flips on, stocks should rise and gold should fall.

That wasn’t the case this time.

The Nasdaq rose 1.18%, the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index climbed 3.60%, and the Dow gained just 0.03%. #美股 was almost entirely crammed into one sector chain.

Gold and the dollar moving in the same direction was the most unusual thing that night. When the dollar strengthens, dollar-denominated gold gets more expensive for overseas buyers, and its price usually falls. This time, both lines moved up together.

The money buying gold wasn’t responding to either the currency market or interest rates. The 10-year Treasury yield closed Tuesday at 4.99%, just 1 basis point below the previous day, with real yields barely moving.

Crude oil was the only market clearly heading down. It closed Tuesday at 99.94, down 1.79%, then touched 100.44 again at 08:18 this morning. The Middle East premium is easing, but it hasn’t gone away entirely.

The implications of these three lines for crypto are straightforward. $BTC hit a low of 79506 at 6 p.m. last night and a high of 81300 at 5 a.m. this morning. One end was three and a half hours before the U.S. market opened; the other was an hour after the close.

It was tracking the Nasdaq line, not the dollar line.

So tonight’s sequence is worth watching. The Fed decision is at 02:00, and GOOGL and MSFT earnings are on the calendar for 04:00. The first affects discount rates; the second affects earnings in the computing-power chain.

If the Nasdaq and BTC both turn back after those two events, then Tuesday’s move really was driven by the same factor. If the Nasdaq turns back but BTC holds, we’ll need a different explanation.

What I’m unsure about is this move in gold. New York gold rose 1.76%, from Friday’s close of 4007.90 to 4078.40 at 08:18. It’s plausible to attribute that to central-bank buying; it’s also plausible to call it an oversold rebound. But there’s no way to prove either explanation.

The structure is what’s really worth remembering.

When four lines have four different drivers in a single day, the market isn’t controlled by one switch. Any explanation that uses one word to account for every asset’s move that day will end up being wrong the next day.

Because there are always more drivers than labels.

$BTC is now at 80768, up 0.68% over 24 hours, with trading volume of $1.057 billion. #黄金 token XAUT is quoted at 4063.94, up 1.15%.
