Foresight News reports that, according to Anthropic’s S-1 filing, in October 2025 the company repurchased approximately 4.4539 million shares of Series B redeemable convertible preferred stock from the U.S. government at about $140.97 per share, and resold them at the same price to nine accredited investors. The total consideration was approximately $627 million. The shares had previously been forfeited in legal proceedings, and Anthropic received no net proceeds from the transaction.
Business Insider reports that the shares were originally held by Caroline Ellison and Nishad Singh, and the proceeds from their sale were transferred to the FTX bankruptcy estate to repay creditors. If Anthropic’s valuation were to reach $1.5 trillion, the shares would be worth approximately $3.94 billion.
