Sean Bowe proposed ending the automatic allocation of 8% of the block reward to the Zcash Community Grants (ZCG) program and directing those funds to the Network Sustainability Mechanism reserve. In his view, the grants program already has assets worth approximately $125 million, which is enough to continue operating.
The current funding model has been in effect since November 2024: 80% of the block reward goes to miners, 8% is allocated to ZCG for ecosystem development grants, and another 12% goes into a separate fund, with the distribution of its funds depending on decisions by ZEC holders.
