🔥 10.27 Evening Crypto Briefing|BTC loses $80K, institutional buying and selling diverge
Today’s market feels a bit subdued: Bitcoin fell below the recent one-month consolidation range of $80,000–$87,000, with spot prices roughly hovering around $79,700–$80,000; Ethereum followed lower, and DeFi is even weaker. Asian tech stocks were strong today, but crypto did not keep up. The Federal Reserve’s two-day policy meeting has begun, and the market largely expects it to stay put on Wednesday, but the concern is a hawkish tone in the comments.
1️⃣ Price and Macro
BTC has fallen below the key $80,000 level, with CoinDesk and others reporting a decline of about 0.4% since UTC midnight, and at one point intraday it came close to $79,700. On Monday, U.S. spot BTC ETFs recorded about $110 million in net inflows, ending the combined roughly $774 million outflows from the previous two days—institutions are still buying a little on dips, but October as a whole still leans toward net outflows.
2️⃣ Institutions: some are taking a break, others are adding more
Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) disclosed that it added zero BTC during the week of 10/19–10/25, instead using about $205 million in cash to buy back STRC preferred shares; as of 10/25 it still held about 848,517 BTC. Michael Saylor personally confirmed the buyback and holdings on X, and also congratulated Strive on buying 6,182 BTC. Lookonchain tracked it too: Strive took the other side with about $511.4 million at an average price of about $82,732. One pauses while another buys; short-term market sentiment is being driven by “who is still buying.”
3️⃣ CZ: Ringing the Nasdaq bell for BNB
CZ (@cz_binance) posted with emotion: BNB is now 9 years old, and he never expected that one day he would ring the Nasdaq bell for a blockchain token treasury. He said this better than anything shows how crypto and traditional finance are converging, and he coined #BNB Standard. The post spread widely, leaning more toward narrative and sentiment than a price signal.
4️⃣ Brian Armstrong: scarcity emphasized again
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said: artificial diamonds, and even “alchemy” making gold, are becoming real, but you can’t invent anything that increases Bitcoin’s supply — there will always only ever be 21 million. When prices break key levels, this kind of “hard cap” narrative tends to get shared widely.
5️⃣ On-chain quick update (Lookonchain)
Around today: an address suspected to be related to MARA sold about 1,000 BTC (about $80.19 million); a whale dormant for about 3 years deposited about 2,571 BTC (about $207 million) into Coinbase Prime; and another old ETH wallet continued selling in batches. On-chain selling pressure and weak spot prices are confirming each other, so treat this as a risk alert, not a copy-trade instruction.
Also: news that Ripple has been approved to establish a U.S. national trust bank is still spreading, and XRP is relatively resilient, even slightly up — the regulatory breakthrough narrative is more eye-catching today than the broad sell-off in altcoins.
Plainly put: the 80,000 level has been lost + everyone is waiting ahead of the rate decision, and the institutional script has shifted from “Strategy adds every week” to “some pause, some buy.” Don’t chase sentiment; first see what the Fed says on Wednesday.
Not investment advice.
