Is AKT leaving Cosmos for Solana?
Giving up its own chain, too?
Is Akash serious this time?
Whoa.
Guys,
crypto projects changing their narrative is nothing new,
but one that's getting ready to move house
is definitely worth watching.
The core team behind decentralized cloud computing project Akash Network
has chosen Solana as its next stop.
It plans to say goodbye to its own Cosmos sovereign chain
and redeploy its computing-power marketplace on Solana mainnet.
Put simply,
it won't maintain its own independent chain anymore.
Instead, it'll use Solana's underlying network, liquidity, and user ecosystem.
Why move when things are going fine?
Akash's reasoning is very practical.
Maintaining its own chain means
supporting validators and maintaining technical components,
as well as handling upgrades and security.
But its core business is buying and selling GPU computing power,
which doesn't necessarily require its own independent chain.
After moving to Solana,
transaction costs will be lower,
there'll be more DePIN projects in the ecosystem,
and liquidity and users will be more concentrated.
What does this mean for AKT?
According to the plan,
AKT will migrate to Solana as a token at a 1:1 ratio.
Its ticker and total supply will remain unchanged.
The migration portal is planned to stay open for two years,
but the migration is one-way.
AKT that is staked must first be unstaked,
which usually takes 21 days.
The governance proposal is still being voted on,
and the token migration will also need an independent audit.
The date when the computing-power marketplace will actually switch over hasn't been determined yet.
Staking rewards on the old chain will end when the marketplace switches over,
while validators' roles and income will end when the old chain finally stops operating.
In crypto terms,
this is bullish for SOL:
another sizable DePIN project is joining the ecosystem,
which continues to expand its reach
and could draw funds and users from Cosmos into the SOL ecosystem.
That's a plus for the ecosystem.
That said,
the process isn't complete yet.
The audit and the upcoming vote on migrating the marketplace are still uncertainties.
Guys,
don't start shouting that SOL is about to moon just yet.
