Ripple officially secures a federal bank charter — announced last night U.S. time, just before Swell kicks off in New York.
The facts: The OCC granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank (announced Monday night, Oct. 26, U.S. time; Business Wire press release, confirmed by Cointelegraph and The Defiant on Oct. 27). This completes the conditional approval granted in Dec. 2025. The bank will manage segregated RLUSD reserves, act as a fiduciary for RLUSD holders, and provide digital asset custody. RLUSD’s issuer itself remains Standard Custody & Trust Company, regulated by the NYDFS. Ripple follows Circle, which received final approval in July; Coinbase, Crypto.com, and Bridge are still at the conditional stage.
My take: This is institutional plumbing, not a direct XRP price catalyst — the announcement didn’t mention XRP’s price at all. But for RLUSD, federally supervised reserves add another layer of confidence on top of NYDFS oversight. And in a week like this, with the FOMC, clear regulatory news feels like an anchor. XRP itself is around $1.304 this afternoon (MEXC ~18:15 WIB), near the top of the $1.27–$1.31 range.
What I’m watching: product announcements during Swell, Oct. 27–29; when institutional custody through this bank actually goes live; and which issuer is next to receive final approval.
What do you think: Is this federal bank charter more important for RLUSD, or for crypto’s legitimacy in the eyes of institutions?
This is my analysis, not financial advice — always DYOR.
