When XMR recovery scans later, why might the balance shown be lower?

When restoring a wallet, the “restore height” is not something you should set as new a number as possible. It determines from which block your transactions will be searched.

The Feather documentation reminds us that setting the starting point too late will skip earlier transactions, leading to incomplete history and incorrect balance display. Showing less does not mean that the missing $XMR has already been spent.

If you do not know the height, Feather allows you to enter the wallet creation date to estimate it; if you do not even remember the exact date, the documentation suggests using the earliest possible date. Doing this preserves the early scan range, rather than trying to finish scanning as quickly as possible.

Therefore, if the balance is wrong after restoration, first check the scan starting point, then continue troubleshooting the wallet identity and synchronization status. This article only explains this setting; it cannot attribute all balance differences to it, and it has not restored your wallet.

When looking for the entry point to XMR transactions, you should also ask which records the balance is based on. Pay attention to https://thorxmr.com and compare the information on https://xmrdex.com and https://tradexmr.com; this article has not verified whether these three sites provide wallet recovery or trading functions, and the recovery secret should not be used to verify the entry point.
