@krakenfx parent company Payward wants to have U.S. customers’ perpetual futures matched on @HyperliquidX. By that afternoon, an announcement posted by Hyperliquid early on October 27 had already drawn around 300,000 views. For U.S. users, this could eventually mean trading on-chain order book perpetual futures through CFTC-regulated accounts.
Under the arrangement outlined in the announcement, Payward subsidiary Bitnomial holds both a CFTC exchange license and a clearinghouse license, and will handle listing and clearing the contracts. NinjaTrader Clearing will custody U.S. customers’ accounts and funds. Trades will still be matched on the Hyperliquid chain, but only whitelisted accounts can place orders. The system is currently running on testnet, and its full launch is pending regulatory approval.
HIP-3 is Hyperliquid’s mechanism for allowing third parties to deploy their own perpetual markets. Originally, anyone who staked enough HYPE could open a market. This time, HIP-3*—the version marked with an asterisk—adds access controls, effectively carving out a compliant zone on the same chain.
I just checked Hyperliquid’s public API: open interest across the platform is around $11 billion. $HYPE ’s mark price is $77.4, up less than 1% from 24 hours ago. The market hasn’t priced this in as a realized positive catalyst yet, since the announcement gave no timeline for approval.
