Both are core U.S.-listed storage chip stocks, but they have very different positioning: Micron is a full-spectrum storage leader spanning DRAM, HBM, and NAND, while SanDisk is a pure-play NAND flash stock, with greater exposure to AI SSDs, data centers, and consumer storage.

Earnings and fundamentals

Micron Technology’s latest FY2026 revenue was $133.19 billion, up approximately 256% year over year; net income attributable to the parent company was $84.97 billion, up approximately 895%.

Its core strengths are that it offers HBM, DRAM, and NAND, and in particular, HBM4 is already shipping in volume. This puts it in a strong position to benefit directly from demand for AI servers, GPU memory, and data center memory.

SanDisk's full-year revenue for fiscal 2026 was approximately $20.25 billion, up about 175% year over year; net income was approximately $11.43 billion.

It has no DRAM or HBM, relying mainly on NAND flash, enterprise SSDs, and consumer storage. Its data center business is growing rapidly, but overall it depends more on flash prices and SSD demand.

From a candlestick chart and market-cycle perspective

Both are currently highly cyclical stocks, and their share prices are very sensitive to storage prices, AI demand, capital expenditures, and earnings guidance.

Micron: After a sharp rise from its lows, the stock has now pulled back from its highs and is moving within a range of around $850–$920 in the short term. Its upside leverage mainly comes from HBM and DRAM prices. If demand for AI servers remains strong, earnings will have stronger support.

SanDisk: Its gains have been even more dramatic, but its pullbacks have also been deeper. It is more exposed to NAND price movements: when data center SSD demand is strong, profits can surge quickly; but if flash prices fall or guidance misses expectations, the stock will be more volatile.

A simple distinction

For exposure to HBM + DRAM + NAND, with a stronger focus on the AI computing and storage theme: Micron$MUB is the more diversified choice.

For a bet on rising NAND prices, AI SSDs, and data center storage—with greater upside potential but also greater volatility: SanDisk$SNDKB is the more focused choice.

Personal recommendation

I recommend Micron$MUB because its competitive moat is deeper! Below $900, Micron can be held long term with less than 2x leverage on a spot position.
