BTC ETFs saw net inflows of about $300 million last week. So why did they see $770 million in outflows over the final two days? [Morning Briefing]
U.S. spot BTC ETFs posted net inflows overall last week, but over the final two days alone, they saw net outflows.
According to Farside’s daily figures (in millions of dollars):
Monday +526.7, Tuesday +23.2, Wednesday +524.8, Thursday -635.6, Friday -137.9.
The weekly total was about +301, or roughly $300 million in net inflows. But the first three days saw about $1.07 billion come in, while the final two saw about $770 million go out. Figures for this Monday (10/26) were not yet available when this was posted, so they’re not included.
To put it bluntly: if you only read the “weekly net inflows” headline, you might think institutions are adding to their positions; if you only look at Friday’s snapshot, you might think they’re heading for the exits. Both views tell only half the story. Money flows in and out, and a weekly total alone doesn’t tell you the direction.
There’s only one key date this week: the Federal Reserve’s official calendar says the policy meeting is scheduled for October 27–28. As usual, the statement is due at 2 p.m. Wednesday Eastern Time, which is 2 a.m. Thursday (10/29) Beijing Time. Before the decision is announced, any talk of “probabilities” is just speculation.
Market snapshot (Binance spot, captured at 09:14 Beijing Time, rolling 24 hours):
BTC about 80,344 USDT, +0.34%
ETH about 2,332 USDT, +0.34%
Three things to check:
1. Is the “ETF inflow” you’re looking at for one day or the whole week?
2. Can your position withstand the back-and-forth volatility on the night of the Fed decision?
3. Leveraging up before the meeting to bet on the outcome: get it right and it’s luck; get it wrong and you get liquidated.
