Ripple receives final approval from the U.S. OCC: Federal trust bank charter secured, opening a compliant fast track for RLUSD and institutional custody

- According to reports by Cointelegraph and PANews, the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted final approval to Ripple National Trust Bank, completing the federal trust bank chartering process. The bank had previously received conditional approval in December 2025.
- The newly approved bank may manage the segregated reserves backing Ripple USD (RLUSD), act as trustee for those reserves, and provide fiduciary digital asset custody services. RLUSD itself will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York State Department of Financial Services.
- Following Circle in July this year, Ripple is the second crypto company to receive final approval from the OCC; Coinbase, Crypto.com, and Bridge remain at the conditional approval stage. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse called this a practical step toward “bringing crypto and banking together more effectively.”
- Potential impact: The charter itself does not change XRP’s token mechanics, and near-term price action will still depend on macro factors such as the FOMC decision. Looking further ahead, however, RLUSD now has access to a federal-level reserve management framework, which could make institutional custody services easier to expand.

My take: Short-term outlook for $XRP is neutral, since the charter is a medium-term positive rather than a short-term catalyst. Ahead of the FOMC, the market is more likely to wait and see.
