The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has granted full operating approval to Ripple’s national trust bank, after nearly a year with only conditional approval. The charter allows Ripple to hold reserves for RLUSD itself and provide digital asset custody services to institutional clients.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse confirmed the news, and several independent financial news outlets reported it in the past few hours.
Ripple has not announced a timeline for launching custody services for institutional clients.
Custody through a federally chartered bank is very different from holding coins on an exchange—this is the layer of infrastructure many large funds have been waiting for before putting more money into crypto.
