When you see “X hundred million tokens unlocking next week” on the calendar, which figures should you look at first?
Here’s how I see it: an unlock worth $100 million can have a very different impact on a token with a circulating market cap of $500 million versus one with a circulating market cap of $50 billion.
Unlock dates and amounts are usually listed in a project’s tokenomics documentation. Some projects also specify the release contract on-chain.
My rule of thumb: when assessing the size of an unlock, divide the amount being unlocked by the current circulating supply. This is more informative than looking at the absolute amount alone.
$ARB saw its first unlock of team and investor allocations in March 2024.
