Stellar’s upcoming W addresses solve the problem of distinguishing customer deposits to the same smart contract.
Bell (Protocol 30)’s CAP-84 allows a customer identifier to be attached to a contract address. Tokens still go to the same contract, while the identifier is recorded in the transfer event so business systems can identify the corresponding customer. This provides protocol-level support for multiple customers sharing one contract in smart-account custody.
But adding the new SDK version to a wallet does not complete the integration. The SDK can parse W addresses, but the application’s own address validation, display, and storage logic must also support them. Being able to parse an address and correctly credit a deposit in the business system are two separate things that need to be checked.
The official upgrade guide was updated on October 23. Testnet and mainnet votes are planned for November 3 and November 23, respectively. The upgrade will take effect only if validators approve it, and the dates may still change. For now, treat this as an integration preparation item.
A protocol upgrade does not guarantee XLM price performance. Before transferring, confirm which address types the receiving platform supports.
