The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Bahia (MP-BA) signed a technical agreement with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Santa Catarina to track suspicious cryptoasset transactions.
The MPRJ contracted Chainalysis’s Reactor software for 12 months to quickly map and block illicit transactions on networks such as Bitcoin.
The agreement transfers licenses for specialized tools and allows the Bahia team to work together with the CyberGAECO unit, established by the MPRJ to investigate digital financial crimes. The partnership brings Bahia into the tracking network that Rio de Janeiro had already been building with Santa Catarina.
Under the agreement, the software licenses are shared with the other prosecutors’ offices, allowing Bahia and Santa Catarina to access the same infrastructure without having to contract the service individually. Investigations are coordinated by the CyberGAECO team, which serves as a central intelligence hub.
