Binance exchange founder Changpeng Zhao confirmed plans to develop a new high-performance Layer 1 network that will operate in parallel with the current BNB Smart Chain. The new network is specifically designed for highly demanding workloads, such as high-frequency decentralized finance, payments, and AI agents, targeting block times of 200 milliseconds and ultrafast preconfirmations with finality in under one second.
Zhao emphasized that no new token will be created. BNB will continue to be the sole native asset used to pay fees, stake, and participate in governance on both the traditional BSC network and this new layer. The two chains will be connected by a native bidirectional bridge to prevent liquidity fragmentation.
