Knowledge tends to seem boring in everyday life; you only realize its value when something goes wrong.
Today's topic: transaction finality
Bitcoin offers only probabilistic finality: the more blocks are added after a transaction, the less likely it is to be reversed, though in theory the probability never reaches zero.
When depositing to or withdrawing from different chains, confirmation times vary from chain to chain. A slow arrival doesn't necessarily mean something has gone wrong.
On Ethereum, the staked $ETH serves as collateral for finality: reversing a finalized block would result in the loss of a huge amount of staked funds.
