Polkadot Has Cut New Supply So Why Are Sellers Still Winning?
$DOT is trading near $1.02, and the detail I find interesting is the disconnect between its improving tokenomics and its weakening price action.
On March 14, Polkadot reduced annual DOT issuance from 120 million to 55 million tokens a cut of roughly 54%. Its new economic model also introduces a 2.1 billion DOT maximum supply. That’s a meaningful change for long-term holders, but lower issuance cannot force the market to buy.
There’s another development worth watching: dotUSD, Polkadot’s native stablecoin, launched in October with an initial USDT-to-dotUSD conversion route. Governance has also allocated funding for initial liquidity. If usage grows, this could help strengthen Polkadot’s DeFi ecosystem; the real test is whether liquidity and demand become sustainable.
But price is sending a warning. DOT has fallen from around $1.25 on October 11 to near $1.02 today, showing that tokenomics improvements haven’t yet overcome selling pressure.
My DOTUSDT trading plan:
🟢 Bullish confirmation: Reclaim $1.05 and hold it on a retest. A stronger recovery could bring $1.10 into focus.
🔴 Bearish confirmation: Lose the $1.00 psychological level and fail to recover it. That would signal continued weakness.
My read: Polkadot is addressing supply discipline and building new stablecoin infrastructure, but the market needs proof that these changes can attract sustained capital and users.
Less new supply can help the long-term story. Only real demand can turn the chart around.
