Big news just broke: chip giants Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom are interested in buying up to $5 billion worth of Meta stock.
The hardware giants are getting in on the action themselves, “buying the applications”!
Looking back at Dan Bin’s portfolio adjustments in the third quarter: he trimmed his positions in AMD, Broadcom, and Intel; sold out of Marvell and Arm; and turned around to add to his holdings in Apple, Meta, and Amazon.
His reasoning at the time was that AI was shifting from a race to build computing infrastructure to a contest over real-world applications. The hardware rivalry was cooling off, with memory and applications taking over.
Now the chip giants are investing real money directly in end-user ecosystems, perfectly validating Dan Bin’s view: “move away from hardware and focus on applications.”
