Why is Ethereum’s smallest unit called wei?
Wei Dai was the first to develop Crypto++, an open-source C++ cryptography library. Its first version was released in 1995.
Early cryptographers’ names are often used to market new tokens. Don’t jump on the bandwagon if there’s no connection between the name and the project.
The white paper for $BTC lists Wei Dai’s b-money as its very first reference.
