Global financial markets are heading into a pivotal “super week” this week!
The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) will announce its interest rate decision in the early hours of Thursday (the 29th), Taiwan time. Soon after, tech giants including Google parent Alphabet, Microsoft, and Amazon will release their earnings, while U.S. third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) and the September Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index will also follow.
As Bitcoin (BTC) briefly fell below $80,000 and risk assets came under pressure, a packed slate of interest rate, inflation, and corporate earnings news could become a major volatility catalyst for crypto markets this week.
Fed to announce rate decision early Thursday; markets focus on signals about rate hikes
According to the Federal Reserve’s official calendar, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will meet from October 27 to 28, U.S. Eastern Time. The rate decision is scheduled to be announced at 2:00 a.m. Taiwan time on October 29, followed by the Chair’s press conference at 2:30 a.m.
The Fed raised rates by 25 basis points in September, bringing the federal funds target range to 3.75%–4.00%. According to Reuters’ market outlook on October 26, markets broadly expect rates to remain unchanged this time. However, with inflationary pressures persisting, the Chair’s comments on future policy could still affect the U.S. dollar, Treasury yields, and Bitcoin’s price.
For crypto markets, the key question is not just whether rates will be raised this time, but whether the Fed signals further tightening ahead.
Google, Microsoft, and Amazon earnings are up next; returns on AI investment in focus
Tech stock earnings are another market focus this week.
Alphabet and Microsoft are scheduled to report earnings after the market closes on October 28, U.S. Eastern Time, while Amazon is set to report after the close on the 29th. These correspond to early Thursday and Friday mornings in Taiwan, respectively.
Markets will be watching the growth of Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon AWS, as well as whether the tech giants’ massive capital spending on artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and computing infrastructure is translating into revenue and profits.
In addition, Coinbase (COIN) and Strategy (MSTR), which are directly tied to the crypto industry, are also expected to report results after the market closes on the 29th, U.S. Eastern Time. Crypto investors will be watching the former’s trading revenue and institutional business performance, and the latter’s Bitcoin holdings and capital allocation strategy.
GDP and PCE data due Thursday evening, putting inflation and economic growth to the test
According to an announcement by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the advance estimate of U.S. third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) and September personal consumption expenditures (PCE) inflation data are both scheduled for release at 8:30 p.m. Taiwan time on October 29.
GDP will reflect U.S. economic growth in the third quarter, while core PCE is an important indicator the Fed uses to assess inflation.
The U.S. previously reported that September CPI rose 3.7% year over year and PPI increased to 6.3%. Markets will be watching to see whether PCE again shows that price pressures remain elevated. Notably, PCE will be released after the Fed’s rate decision this time, so it will not affect the policy decision announced early on the 29th, but it could still shift market expectations for the future rate path.

Token unlocks also on the crypto market’s agenda; altcoins face potential supply pressure
Alongside macroeconomic developments and corporate earnings, several token unlocks are also scheduled in the crypto market this week.
According to the DefiLlama crypto calendar, KNTQ tokens are scheduled to unlock on October 27, B2 on the 28th, GUN on the 30th, and P on the 31st. The scheduled unlock for P amounts to about 15.5% of its current circulating supply.
According to the latest available snapshot, Bitcoin is trading at around $80,338, up slightly by 0.06% over 24 hours. It touched an intraday low of $79,279, showing that the $80,000 level remains a key short-term battleground between bulls and bears.
For BTC, the main risks this week come from three areas: whether the Fed’s policy stance leans toward tightening, whether U.S. GDP and PCE data alter market rate expectations, and whether tech giants’ earnings can stabilize sentiment toward global risk assets.
If these developments push the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields higher, they could put pressure on Bitcoin. Conversely, a more optimistic market outlook for interest rates and strong earnings from tech companies could lift risk assets. However, BTC’s price will still be affected by spot ETF flows, derivatives leverage positioning, and actual buying and selling demand in the market. For crypto investors, the real test of this super week is not just whether Bitcoin can hold above $80,000, but whether the flood of macroeconomic and corporate earnings information will prompt markets to reprice future interest rates, AI growth, and risk assets.
