🔥 Are South Korea’s memory chip giants really raking it in this time? $SKHYNIX $SAMSUNG
The AI boom is still gaining momentum, and Samsung and SK Hynix are about to report their results!

Market forecasts suggest that the two companies’ combined operating profits in the third quarter could reach 184.4 trillion won, or about $139.1 billion. Their combined operating profit for all of last year was just 90.8 trillion won. By comparison, this quarter’s forecast is more than double last year’s full-year total—that’s pretty remarkable.

Why are they suddenly making so much? At the end of the day, it’s AI driving the surge. As more and more data centers are built, demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and storage chips keeps growing. Chip prices are rising, too, naturally boosting profits.

Samsung previously reported preliminary third-quarter operating profit of 107.4 trillion won, nearly eight times higher year over year. SK Hynix’s operating profit is also expected to reach 77 trillion won.

But one thing shouldn’t be overlooked: strong results don’t necessarily mean the stock price will keep rising.

The market doesn’t just trade on how much companies have earned so far; it cares even more about whether they can keep growing. If investors have already priced in the good news, the actual earnings announcement could trigger a “sell the news” reaction.

What’s really worth watching next is how long AI demand can stay hot, and whether the two companies can maintain their edge in the next generation of HBM chips.
