Both figures are true. Why? Because the moving average itself is trending down. 88.46 is the average of the past 200 days, not the high from 200 days ago.
Start from a different point and you get a different story. From the -78.97% trough on June 6, it took more than four months to claw back 13 points, little by little. But now it’s only 14.6% away from the 200-day moving average.
Measured from the 90-day low of 70.51, it’s actually up 43.7%.
The 65.7% drop is just the starting point. The 60-day low at 95.72 is the level to hold.
It’s not a recovery until it holds above 106 (the 20-day moving average); if it falls below 95.72, that previous rally was just a dead-cat bounce.
When you look at the chart, don’t focus on percentages—look at which line it’s testing. Set a conditional order at 95.72, and don’t meddle in between.
