BNB Chain officially announced plans to launch a high-performance EVM public chain in parallel, called New L1. It will use BNB for gas fees and governance, and explicitly will not issue a new token. Official documentation sets a target block time of around 200 milliseconds, with the public testnet scheduled for late 2026 and mainnet for early 2027. For now, it’s only a multi-validator development network, with no public RPC. CoinGecko shows spot BNB at around $737 (snapshot at approximately 10:05 Beijing time), slightly down over the past 24 hours.
The key question isn’t whether to launch another chain, but whether a single token can support multiple execution layers. Critics will say there’s no public testnet yet and the timeline is too far off, making this an empty promise. But the official documentation says no new token will be issued, and CZ also replied, “Multiple chains, one coin”—at least the direction is set.
Whether a public access point appears before the end of the year is the first thing I’ll check. If there’s still only a development network by then and no chain ID is available, treat this as roadmap news, not as a launch.
