Changpeng Zhao just personally set the tone: multiple chains, one token.

The details he shared about BNB Chain’s new L1 plan are significant. Here are the four key points:

1. The new L1 won’t replace BSC; the two will coexist, with a native cross-chain bridge connecting their assets and liquidity;
2. No new token will be issued. Gas, staking, and governance will continue to use $BNB , with no dilution of its value-capture mechanism;
3. The new chain’s name has not yet been announced, but an internal multi-validator devnet is already running;
4. The timeline is clear: testnet by the end of 2026, and mainnet in early 2027.

The architectural approach is worth considering. At a time when many new chains rely on “token launches and airdrops” to get started, BNB is choosing to build ecosystem growth directly on a single asset—the chain can be replicated horizontally, but there’s only one token. For long-term holders, this means that, in theory, new on-chain activity will accrue to the same token rather than be diverted to a new one.

Of course, having multiple chains coexist also means that engineering complexity, cross-chain bridge security, and the allocation of ecosystem resources will all come under renewed scrutiny. There’s still plenty of time to observe before the mainnet launch.

What do you think of this new L1? The next growth engine for the BNB ecosystem, or just a routine expansion under the multi-chain narrative? Let’s discuss in the comments.
