I came across a post saying Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar said he had a video call with SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son. Son singled out Kuching in Sarawak and the Malay Peninsula, and is planning to invest around $50 billion in AI, new technologies, and data centers.

For now, it’s still “under discussion”—SoftBank hasn’t responded to requests for comment, and no timeline has been given. But against the backdrop of Asia’s expanding AI infrastructure, competition for data center projects in Southeast Asia is clearly heating up. Malaysia is already attracting investment from Amazon, Microsoft, and Google; add a deal of this scale, and the potential is huge.
