$ZEC ’s NU7 network upgrade is entering its final ten-day countdown. According to the Zebra 7.0.0 release notes published by the Zcash Foundation on October 22, NU7 is scheduled to activate at mainnet height 3,543,405, around November 5 (Zakura estimates approximately 00:50 UTC on November 6). The most noticeable change is that block intervals will shorten from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, reducing the wait for the first confirmation to roughly one-third of what it is now. At the same time, block rewards will be divided by three and the remaining halving interval will be tripled, keeping the amount of ZEC issued per day unchanged. Under ZIP 259, NU7 also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism (NSM), which removes 60% of transaction fees from circulation, and adds operational limits to the shielded pool to prevent spam transactions. Note that v4 transactions will become invalid after the upgrade, and funds still held in the Sprout pool will no longer be spendable. Node operators must upgrade before the activation height or they will end up on a different chain. Holders who keep ZEC on exchanges generally just need to watch for announcements about deposit and withdrawal suspensions.
