Why can someone else get ahead when a transaction hasn’t even been packaged into a block yet?
Here’s how I understand it: On-chain transactions are generally publicly visible before they’re packaged into a block. Whoever can decide the order of transactions may be able to profit from it.
Since Ethereum switched to proof of stake, many blocks have been handed to professional block builders via MEV-Boost, and validators select the block with the highest bid.
