How exactly is the “ETF net inflow” figure calculated?
My understanding: In-kind creations and redemptions allow authorized participants to exchange Bitcoin directly for shares, so the fund doesn’t need to buy or sell Bitcoin on the market itself, resulting in lower transaction costs.
Each trading day, an ETF calculates the net asset value (NAV) per share based on its holdings. A trading price above NAV is called a premium; below NAV, a discount.
My approach: When tracking ETF fund flows, I look at the cumulative trend over several weeks. Large inflows or outflows on a single day may reflect portfolio rebalancing by an individual institution.
Behind the shares of a spot Bitcoin ETF is $BTC actually held by the issuer.
