Guys, today let’s talk about HYPE. It may be one of the hottest new layer-1 blockchains lately, so let’s dig into every detail.

First, the market. HYPE is currently trading around $76.50, with a market cap of $19.4 billion, putting it in the top 11 by market cap. It’s down just 0.2% over the past 24 hours, which counts as steady given the state of the broader market.

1. What exactly does this project do?

Hyperliquid is essentially a decentralized perpetual futures trading platform that also built its own blockchain, HyperEVM. Its biggest difference from other DEXs is that its order book is fully on-chain, with performance strong enough to go toe-to-toe with centralized exchanges.

In 2025, it generated $844 million in protocol revenue alone, while its user base grew from 300,000 to 1.4 million. That’s monster-level growth in the DeFi world.

2. Its tokenomics have some substance

HYPE has a total supply of 1 billion tokens. 31% was distributed in November 2024, and 38.88% is set aside for future community emissions. It has practical uses: staking HYPE can reduce trading fees, it can be used as gas on HyperEVM, and it can even serve as collateral.

With revenue, token utility, and staking, this token model looks relatively healthy compared with other layer-1s today.

3. Institutions are keeping an eye on it

Dragonfly’s earlier HYPE sell-off caused some panic, but looking back, it’s normal for big money to move in and out. HYPE has now appeared in SEC filings (HYPE Treasury), which suggests it’s moving toward greater legitimacy.

4. The risks are worth spelling out, too

First, 38.88% of community emissions are still ahead, so there could be significant selling pressure in the future. Second, DeFi protocol revenue is highly correlated with market sentiment, and revenue will shrink when a bear market hits. Third, at $76, it’s still some way off its previous high of $97.98, and plenty of holders are underwater.

My take

HYPE is one of those projects with genuinely strong fundamentals: real revenue, real users, and real technology. At $76, if the broader market stabilizes, it’s one of the layer-1s with the best chance of reaching a new high first.

But don’t rush to take a big position. Let’s see it hold above $80 first. If it drops below $70, the story will need to be reassessed.

Do you think HYPE can return to its previous high? Would you buy in at this level? Let’s talk in the comments.
