15 companies and projects have supported the development of Mining Development Kit (MDK), Tether’s open-source toolkit for managing Bitcoin mining. Participants have committed to building and maintaining integrations for their hardware and services.

ASIC manufacturers, operators, and mining pools have joined the initiative. They include Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, F2Pool, Foundry Digital, Luxor Technology, OCEAN, and Block’s Proto division.

Each participant will develop an MDK Worker module to connect their hardware, pool, or software system to the common interface. Companies will be able to choose which functions to make available for interaction.

Tether introduced MDK in April. The toolkit serves as the foundation for Mining OS and other mining applications, allowing developers to use ready-made components to manage infrastructure.

A unified interface for mining

A single mining farm can run thousands of devices from different manufacturers, connected to different pools and management systems. Developers have to configure interactions with each of them separately.

MDK is designed to simplify this work. According to the project description, it brings together access to miners, sensors, cooling systems, and electrical equipment. This provides a foundation for building dashboards, applications, and AI agents that are compatible with different infrastructure.

Workers modules translate commands and data from individual systems into a common format. This makes it possible to connect existing technologies while retaining control over hardware and software.

“We are entering a period when software will increasingly manage physical infrastructure, rather than simply report on its status,” said Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino.

According to the company, its QVAC mining AI agent is already running through MDK. Tether sees it as an example of an application that does not need a separate integration with every connected system.

The release of MDK version 0.11 coincides with the Plan B Forum in Lugano on October 23–24. The company plans to introduce the first stable 1.0 release by the end of the year. The source code is already open: developers can test integrations and build their own modules.

In October 2025, Tether introduced an open-source toolkit for wallet development.
