Whale urgently adds margin: $214 million ETH long clings to liquidation threshold, unrealized loss exceeds $18 million

- According to Lookonchain monitoring today (October 25), a whale holding a long position of 93,184 ETH (about $214 million) added $5.67 million in USDC margin to avoid liquidation.
- After the margin addition, the new liquidation prices dropped to about $2,181.69 and $2,177.79. The position’s previous liquidation price was around $2,256, pushing the “line between life and death” down by about $75.
- The cost is substantial: the position is currently down about $18.62 million on paper and has paid a cumulative $2.68 million in funding fees—leveraged longs are “burning money” every day in a choppy market.
- Background: ETH closed at about $2,356 on October 24, still around $170 above the new liquidation threshold. But if it falls below the $2,180 area, the forced closure of this long position worth over $200 million could trigger a cascade of selling pressure.

My view: I’m bearish on ETH in the short term, as the whale’s forced margin addition suggests that leveraged bulls are under pressure. The $2,180 area has become a key line of defense, and a break below it could trigger cascading liquidations.
