A Bitcoin DeFi token popped up on last night’s top gainers list. $LIGHT rose 36.2% overnight, with a current price of $0.3069.
The token’s full name is Bitlight. It’s a BEP20 token on BNB Chain, using the RGB protocol and Lightning Network to bring tokenized assets and stablecoin settlements to Bitcoin. It’s used for governance, staking, and spending within the ecosystem. Public information has mentioned investors including Amber Group and several others. Its contract was created last September, a little over a year ago.
I ran the numbers, and here’s one thing that’s easy to misread: the $128 million market cap shown on the rankings is calculated by multiplying the total supply of 420 million tokens. Only 43.06 million tokens are actually in circulation, putting the circulating market cap at around $13.2 million—just over one-tenth of the figure on the rankings. That market cap can make the project look ten times bigger than it is, so it’s worth clarifying how it’s calculated.
Daily trading volume was $14.6 million across 66,600 trades, averaging around $219 per trade. There were 30,400 buy trades totaling $7.37 million, and 36,200 sell trades totaling $7.22 million. The amounts were roughly balanced, with net buying of only $150,000—not exactly a one-sided rush. The main LIGHT/USDT pool has just over $700,000 in liquidity, while daily volume is 21 times the pool’s depth, so large trades are bound to experience slippage.
There are 28,700 holders, which looks like a lot, but the top ten control 93% of the supply. The remaining 28,000-plus holders share just 7%. The on-chain metrics don’t raise any red flags, though: DEV, sniper, and insider-wallet activity are all zero.
Old Farmer is putting it in the watchlist, in the cautious category. It has the price gains and trading volume; the one awkward point is how concentrated the holdings are. If the top ten sit tight, that’s one thing—but if anyone starts selling, the pool’s liquidity won’t be enough to absorb it. Next, we’ll be watching two things: whether the gains hold and whether the trading volume continues.
What do you think of this Bitcoin DeFi narrative—is there something real behind it, or is it just hype? This is not investment advice. Alpha projects are high-risk and could go to zero.
