Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin said in a CNBC interview that AI has creativity and expertise but cannot prove its own trustworthiness—and blockchain can fill that gap. His vision is for delegation, delivery, and payment to all leave a record on-chain, with agents hiring and verifying one another’s work, while $ETH recedes into the background to serve as a central settlement layer. Golden Finance reported on the interview.
The vision is not new: he has previously said that AI agents will drive more autonomous activity on-chain. The more immediate use case is privacy: EthSystems, which he recently backed, develops Ethereum privacy technology for institutions. Before institutions can move settlement onto public blockchains, they need a way to avoid putting every transaction detail on-chain. That is much closer than agents paying one another.
