Elon Musk’s early career took a dramatic turn in 1995.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Musk went to California intending to pursue graduate studies at Stanford.

But the internet was growing rapidly, and he believed the opportunity was happening right then.

He chose to put his studies on hold and co-founded Zip2 with his brother Kimbal. Musk later recalled that the company’s early days were extremely lean he slept in the office and showered at the YMCA while building the business. Stanford Technology Ventures Program

Zip2 eventually became a major success. In 1999, Compaq bought the company for about $307 million in cash. Musk then used much of his proceeds to help launch X.com, which later became part of the story behind PayPal. Stanford Technology Ventures Program

The interesting part isn't simply that Musk left Stanford.

It’s that he made a bet on a technology that many people still didn't fully understand and decided he would rather build during the internet boom than watch it happen from the sidelines.

That decision became the beginning of a much bigger journey #ElonMusk
