Canada is getting serious about stablecoin regulation: consultations on the new rules open October 24, with a 60-day comment period ending December 23. The rules are expected to take effect in fall 2027 alongside the Stablecoin Act. The framework has three core requirements: non-bank issuers must first register with the Bank of Canada, maintain high-quality liquid reserves of at least 1:1, and redeem stablecoins at par. Stablecoins also cannot be marketed as deposits or government-insured products. The U.S. OCC’s GENIUS rules take effect on January 18, 2027, so Canada’s move fills in the other half of North America’s regulatory picture. The requirements for compliant issuers are becoming clearer, while there will be less and less room for unregulated stablecoins. Don’t wait until the registration window closes to start thinking about compliance.#稳定币 #Canada
