Since October 1, 40 new wallets have withdrawn a total of 9,458 $BTC from market maker Wintermute. At the time of reporting, that was worth approximately $771.5 million. On-chain monitoring platform Lookonchain labeled the activity as whale accumulation: the coins left market-maker addresses and moved into newly created wallets, rather than being sent directly to exchanges for sale. Several Chinese-language news outlets have cited the same figures, with the amount and transfer path clearly reported.

The withdrawals alone don’t show that the coins were newly bought, nor do they prove they won’t be sold later. They only confirm the path of the transfer—from Wintermute to a batch of new addresses. Market makers often use their coins to facilitate large trades; when a large amount is withdrawn, the market may initially interpret it as “someone planning to hold for the long term.” But that remains an inference, not definitive proof of a position.

On the afternoon of October 24, China Standard Time, $BTC was trading around $80,800 on Binance spot. With the accumulation news coinciding with a relatively weak market, it’s easy to start discussing whether “someone is buying in around this level.” For market watchers, this is more like a verifiable on-chain record: new addresses, a large amount, and a clear direction. The next things to watch are whether these addresses continue withdrawing coins and whether any large amounts flow back to exchanges.
