Seven ships in the Strait of Hormuz hit mines or came under attack in a single day. Brent crude rose back above $113.

BTC plunged from $84,800 to $81,000, its biggest drop in two weeks.

Nearly $498 million in crypto positions were liquidated across the market in 24 hours. Long positions accounted for $340 million, including $81.3 million in BTC longs. Short liquidations totaled just $12.51 million.

The long-to-short ratio was 6.5 to 1. This wasn’t a pullback—it was a one-sided slaughter.

Spot gold also fell below $4,000 the same day, dropping more than 4% this week and swinging from a 29.7% gain this year to a loss of over 7%.

Two “safe-haven assets,” falling hand in hand.

The old script went: war → panic → buy gold and BTC.

Today’s new playbook: war → oil prices surge → inflation explodes → rate-hike expectations go through the roof → everything that pays no interest dies together.

Iran blew up seven ships in one day, sending oil prices to $113. Every dollar oil rises, inflation expectations harden another notch. The odds of a 25-bp rate hike in December have already hit 74.8%.

Gold pays no interest, and neither does BTC.

The higher interest rates go, the more expensive the “opportunity cost” of holding them becomes.

So when Nasdaq 100 futures fell 1.7% that day, BTC followed closer than anything else.

In this pricing framework, BTC stopped being “digital gold” a long time ago. It’s a high-beta risk asset, sitting at the same table as Tesla and Nvidia. When the table gets flipped, whoever’s slowest to run gets buried.

You’re betting on war; war is betting on inflation; and inflation is betting your position will get wiped out.

The U.S. and Israeli militaries have already scheduled their next round of strikes for after the midterm elections. The mines around the oil tankers haven’t even been cleared yet, and the next batch is already on its way.

The war hasn’t even begun, and your long position has already been blown through.

When war becomes a tailwind for rate hikes, BTC bulls are hostages in a geopolitical game.
