A 14.6% drop takes a 17.1% gain to recover from—let’s run the numbers on $NEAR
$NEAR is trending on CoinGecko. It’s fallen from its 10/22 high of 5.452 to around 4.654 now, down about 6.7% in 24 hours. Today’s low was 4.557 (OKX perpetuals, data captured 10/24 at 11:00 Taipei time).

I plugged the numbers into a calculator (a spreadsheet or AI works too) and worked out three things:
1. Gain needed to break even = 5.452 ÷ 4.654 − 1 ≈ 17.1%
2. If you’d opened a 10x long at the 10/22 high, a drop of just over 10% would nearly wipe out your margin. The price has already fallen 14.6% (not including fees or maintenance margin).
3. At 20x leverage, it would take a drop of about 5% to get there.

Losses and gains aren’t symmetrical, and leverage amplifies the gap.

Two more figures: NEAR perpetual funding is currently around −0.010%, with open interest at about $52.7 million—bearish sentiment, but not extreme.
$SUI, also trending, is down about 2.9% over 24 hours, a smaller drop than NEAR.

What I do: I use tools to calculate “how much it takes to break even” and “what leverage could wipe me out.” Before entering a trade, I work backward from my stop-loss distance to choose my leverage, then place the stop-loss order.

Do you use a calculator before placing a trade? 🟢 Yes / 🔴 I go by gut
