bStocks Collateral: Markets Close on Weekends, but Account Risk Doesn’t Take a Break
According to Binance’s October 20 announcement, the bStocks collateral index mechanism will support dynamic, around-the-clock updates starting at 08:00 Beijing time on October 24. If you use bStocks as leveraged collateral, don’t rely solely on the last closing price during traditional market hours when trading is closed.
The official methodology states that when external market data is unavailable, the index references Binance trading prices and uses an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) of the order-book impact mid-price. When exiting this mode, the transition is weighted rather than switching directly to another price. This is a collateral valuation mechanism; it does not mean the U.S. stock market is open around the clock.
The key implication is that collateral value changes with the index, so margin levels or the unified maintenance margin ratio (uniMMR) may also change while markets are closed. Dedicated price-movement limits do not mean your principal is protected; prices may still fluctuate sharply when markets reopen, and collateral ratios and parameters may also be adjusted.
What to check in your account: collateral assets, current valuation, applicable collateral ratios, and risk metrics. bStocks do not confer direct ownership of stocks and are issued only in ADGM under an approved prospectus; they are not publicly offered in other regions, and secondary-market access is restricted to eligible regions and users.
