a16z no longer has a standalone crypto division, and stablecoin funds are flowing out of exchanges

1. a16z has renamed its entire crypto business a16z Frontier. Managing partner Chris Dixon has expanded the fund’s investment scope to include AI and robotics, while founding partner Ali Yahya has left to launch a startup (Basis Desk). The industry’s biggest distributor of crypto narratives is no longer allocating resources to “crypto” as a standalone category. This is a downgrade at the narrative level, not an ordinary personnel change.

2. Whales recorded net outflows of $27.5 million from exchanges in 24 hours, including $15.2 million in USD Coin and $9.6 million in Tether, across just 8 transactions (Basis Desk). The net inflows seen in recent days have now been reversed. And because stablecoins made up most of the funds leaving exchanges this time, the amount of capital available to buy on the market is shrinking. Meanwhile, total stablecoin supply fell by another $439 million in 24 hours and $1.95 billion over 7 days, while DeFi total value locked fell by $2.46 billion (DefiLlama).
