【Cycle Review: Volume Is Hot, but No Direction Has Emerged】

When altcoins retreated in 2018, the most grueling part wasn’t the crash—it was the sideways trading: volume was hot, yet no one could tell whether the market was bottoming or just pausing before another move. AVAX is down 8.5% over the past seven days and up just 0.3% in the past 24 hours, stuck between 8.83 and 9.52.

I was watching trading volume and expected the market to pick a direction soon after volume picked up. Activity did increase, and I was half right about the choppiness, but the reversal never came—that was my mistake. Sentiment has fallen from a weekly average of 57 to 50, which looks more like investors waiting for evidence than panic selling.

In practical terms, application developers and teams relying on incentives to attract new users need to show real users, retention, and revenue. Being down 94% from the ATH only means the price is low; it doesn’t mean the business has improved. High turnover also doesn’t mean new money is flowing in. The projects hit hardest are those with a concept but no paying customers.

Whether the business case holds up comes down to two things: does volume increase if the price breaks below 8.83, and can trading activity remain steady after it moves above 9.52? If it holds and breaks out on rising volume, demand is back; a high-volume break below support would signal a continuation of the downtrend.

I’ve changed my view this week: instead of “a deep drop means a rebound,” I now think “verify demand first, then talk about valuation.” It wasn’t the size of the drop that changed my mind, but the lack of confirmation between price and volume. Do you think 8.83 will hold next week, and when will new demand emerge?
