🚨 Wall Street is shaken by AI stock selloffs as Big Tech earnings fail to reassure investors
U.S. stocks suffered a sharp drop on October 22 as investors questioned whether massive investments in artificial intelligence will generate enough returns to justify their costs.
The Nasdaq Composite Index $NDX plunged 2.6%, its biggest daily decline since early June, while the semiconductor index $SOX fell 6.7%. Chipmakers such as $INTC Intel and $AMD AMD posted losses of more than 8%.
The pressure intensified after $META Meta shares fell 7%, despite beating earnings expectations, as heavy AI spending fueled concerns about cash flow. $TSLA Tesla also dropped 3.1%, showing that even positive cash generation and forecasts for lower spending may not be enough to satisfy investors.
This earnings season sends a clear warning: beating quarterly estimates is no longer enough when markets demand proof that AI investments can generate sustainable profits.
Investors are now closely watching upcoming results from tech companies, as further disappointments could trigger greater volatility in stocks and the broader AI sector.
