ChainSecurity said it had identified 13 real-world examples of smart contracts that could potentially be affected by Glamsterdam’s gas changes, and is coordinating responsible disclosure with the affected projects.
Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet after researchers identified gas-related security risks that could affect how existing smart contracts handle failed transactions.
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) announced that the upgrade, originally scheduled for October 26, would be postponed to give developers time to investigate how certain proposals interact with smart contracts deployed on Ethereum.
On October 13, blockchain security firm ChainSecurity warned that two proposals included in Glamsterdam, EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, could weaken safeguards against a type of attack known as griefing through gas exhaustion.
The postponement raises uncertainty about the timeline for the Glamsterdam mainnet upgrade. Ethereum developers had been considering a launch in early December, with plans to set a final schedule after the Hoodi test succeeds.
