Section Four · Signs of What’s to Come

A tide on its way is always preceded by signs. Waterbirds fly low, schools of fish gather and disperse, patterns in the shore sand reverse, and the distant sea subtly swells. These four are the tide’s messengers. Those who fail to recognize them are startled when the tide arrives; those who read them well prepare before it comes. Signs may be true or false: true signs come in succession, while false ones appear alone and then vanish. $BTC
