Crypto Morning Brief | 10.23

BTC surged to around $84,800 last night before pulling back. It has already fallen below $82,000 this morning and is currently trading around $81,200–$81,600, down more than 3% in 24 hours. ETH has also retreated to around $2,400.

The main drag came from cooling sentiment around AI. Tesla and Meta reported mixed earnings, prompting concerns about whether AI spending can be sustained. Asian stock markets sold off, with South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong hit particularly hard, while Nasdaq futures also weakened. Oil prices remain high, and overall risk appetite has cooled.

Liquidations totaled around $455 million across the market over the past 24 hours, with long positions taking the brunt. Another $187 million was liquidated in the past four hours, mostly from longs.

Altcoins and DeFi fell a little harder than BTC, as capital continues to favor Bitcoin. The latest rally failed to hold, and prices have slipped back into a choppy range.
