The S&P 500 fell 0.86%. Two heavyweight stocks in the same sector dropped 4.2% and 2.8%, while $AAPL rose 1.3%—same day, same AI narrative, but investors made the opposite choice.

$AAPL ’s relative strength wasn’t because it was more AI-focused, but because it was less so: its revenue comes from hardware and services, it faces less capex pressure, and during earnings season it became an option “not held hostage by capex.”

My take: this is a classic defensive rotation, not a sudden improvement in fundamentals. As long as concerns about AI capex remain, money will flow from high-investment stocks to companies with stable cash flow.

No buy calls—just a reminder: don’t mistake one day of relative strength for a trend reversal. For a real move higher, we’ll need to see next quarter’s iPhone and services revenue.
